New Server, New Job Board Resource

New Server, New Job Board Resource Heres some much-anticipated news: 1. We finally, finally, finally got our new server in place. We debated going strictly cloud, or getting a new box, or just milking all we could out of our existing box.  After various considerations we decided to get a brand new server.  A few weeks ago it arrived and was prepared for the big move on Wednesday morning in the wee morning hours the change was official. Result: You should see a significantly faster JibberJobber.  We have, and we hear good things from users. 2. We have added a new job board aggregator to the experience. On a company or job posting page, youve seen the related jobs section where you would see links to related jobs.  These were provided by Indeed.  Now there is a tab for Indeed and another tab for LinkUp.  Weve been asked to provide a link to LinkUp, which we now have.  Jobs from LinkUp should only come from an employer website in other words, they spider employer websites (not other job boards or aggregators), so the probability that the jobs posted are REAL jobs should be higher.  See this page for more on LinkUp jobs. They say they are always current, often unadvertised, and never fake.  That sounds good to me! Result: More relevant jobs, supposedly from a more trusted source. Here are a few from the past Using Facebook to get a job Using Twitter to get a job I had the pleasure of speaking to another ambitious millennial recently, by the name of Lewis Howes. I would personally say that I dedicate most of my time to Twitter and this blog. I havent been using Facebook or other social media sites as much as I have in the past. Lewis and I spoke on the phone and hes a good friend of Connie Bensen, who is the coeditor of Personal Branding Magazine and one of my close contacts. Lewis told me that hes had crazy success with LinkedIn and I thought that was unheard of. Today, he tells his story! In the beginning Over the last year I would say that 90% of my business opportunities have come from building my network on LinkedIn. At first, I was a little confused with the networking platform because it was different than Facebook and Myspace, but I shortly began to realize the potential it had. What I did to make me successful Initially, I completed my profile as it suggests you to do, then I started to reach out to other professional athletes and individuals who worked in the professional sports industry. Since I had played one year of Arena Football already, my initial goal was to build relationships with other football players, agents, and scouts, and network my way onto another team. I wanted to separate athletes from everyone else in the industry so I created groups like the Professional Athlete Network and the Sports Industry Network to build my database and differentiate the two. I then asked my network compelling questions, provided useful feedback, made key introductions, started a newsletter including unique industry information, and built a site with additional resources to help people in my database achieve their professional goals. My achievements Since I was willing to make those important introductions, offer unconditional advice, and help others land jobs or build their business, people started seeing me as a valuable connector. Because I worked on building my personal brand on LinkedIn, I now: give speeches to various associations and businesses write for a sports industry magazine receive sports sponsorship and marketing opportunities host live networking events to LinkedIn members I also get free products to test and review, and receive free trips around the country to attend events. Various inventors bring me their products and ideas for my day job where I work as an inventor and intellectual property broker. I have close to 1,500 direct connections, and 20,000 other connections from the various niche groups I created. Without the LinkedIn platform I would have to say most of this would not be possible. Take into consideration that this did not happen over night, but these results are possible for anyone who is willing to put in the effort. What I recommend that you do For those who do not have the time to build their network, I suggest focusing on three things: Complete Your Profile What you write on your profile is the most important thing because your LinkedIn page shows up towards the top of the Google search results. Think of it as a resume on steroids; add all of your important key words and achievements and leave out the roids J Answer Questions I know a guy with 12 connections and a half-completed profile, and he answers a question a day. In the last 30 days he landed three new freelance jobs because of his helpful answers. This takes 30 seconds a day, but if done right, it could identify you as a leader in your industry and land you more business. Recommend Others “But, Lewis, isn’t the goal to get recommendations on my profile?” This is true because the more others vouch for you, the more potential clients are willing to hire you because they trust in your experience and services. However, I say make recommendations first because this does two things: your name and a thoughtful recommendation show up on another person’s profile, and eight out of ten people you recommend will return the favor. It takes a few minutes, but leaves twice the impact. Lewis Howes is the founder of SportsNetworker.com, a business-networking portal for the sports industry. Article By:  Melissa Sperl You walk into work, confused and dulled, excusing yourself to the colleagues you bump into with tales of all the sleep you didnt get last night. In todays world of overwhelming responsibilities and lack of personal time, sleep is often put on the back burner. And your body pays the price. A night of no sleep (or even too little sleep), can leave you confused and exhausted all day. In this disoriented state, trying to face the already-difficult challenge of sticking to your weight-loss plan hardly seems worth the energy. The price of staying awake If insomnia is a repeat occurrence for you, visit your doctor â€" it could be a sign of a number of conditions, including depression. But the occasional night of not enough requires some attention on your part, too. Lack of sleep is a stress on the body, says Karen Miller-Kovach, MS, RD, Chief Scientific Officer for Weight Watchers International. When you dont get enough sleep, your body is in an after-stress reaction mode, and you go to eat. And this is the worst part: You tend not to make good choices because your body is reacting to the stress with something called disinhibition. In other words, because youre tired, you lose the motivation that you usually have to make good choices. Your body sets itself up in sleep deprivation mode, psychologically and behaviorally, continues Miller-Kovach. Its a very vulnerable time. And thats not even counting the physiological response. When you dont get enough sleep, your body reacts in a fight or flight way. Theres a release of sugar as fuel so your body can run away from this terrible thing thats happening to it. That sugar is then converted into fat. Research also suggests that even temporary sleep deprivation can affect the bodys ability to break down carbohydrates. Plus, a lack of rest may destroy your resolve to fit some exercise into your lunch hour â€" those extra minutes of exercise that keep you on the road to successful weight loss. Well-rested equals more energized. Lack of sleep? A surefire precursor to scoffing at the idea of an invigorating power walk with your buddies after work. Manage your exhaustion Steer clear of caffeine. Its tempting to drive away that sluggish feeling with strong coffee or a caffeinated soda, but that only leads to a crash. Caffeine is a stimulant, so as it wears off â€" which happens quickly â€" it accentuates the problem, says Miller-Kovach. Youre better off having something soothing, like herbal tea. Keep eating â€" the right way. Have your usual go-to breakfast in the morning â€" itll help you stay on track for the rest of the day. Since exhaustion might cause you to eat aimlessly and thoughtlessly, make sure you have healthy snacks like fruit, veggies and non-fat yogurt close at hand. Set yourself up for slumber. Maximize your chances of getting a good nights sleep tonight: skip alcoholic drinks and caffeine, declare your bedroom an electronic-free zone (that means no TV, too!) and keep the room temperature on the cool side. Its the courtship on the professional level: initial interview, technical interview, coffee meetings, meeting the team, negotiations it is a serious process that no one likes to do too often in their careers! There is a reason a candidate will go through this process.  Its often a level of dissatisfaction in their current role that will inspire a person to look beyond their partition and into a whole new world.  One with potentially greater opportunity. This dissatisfaction can be on multiple levels. It can be a career ceiling, being set up for failure, not providing enough support, bad management or leadership, toxic environments, or money. It could be all of these things wrapped up with deaf ears that either ignore or refuse to accept the cries for help from their valued employees. So the courtship begins  with someone else.  All of a sudden the candidate sees just how valuable their skill set and experience is. Wow! they think, I have not been valued by my boss AT ALL! The candidate gets an offer that checks off all of their wants.   Greater opportunity, support mechanisms for growth and achievement, more cash, and a dynamic team environment and projects. They know this is the right move for them. When the time comes to dump their current employer, the proverbial hits the fan. Current boss freaks out, and starts showering them with the promise of more resources, better profile, and more money.  Not until they are faced with the possibility of losing them, do they realize how valuable their employee is. And I think that sucks. Why does it take SO LONG for a manager to start listening?  What kind of respect is that? Whats taken you so long to realize that this great employee is worth something? For those of you in the position of being countered by their current company: listen up. When you are presented with a counter offer, its important to ask yourself a few questions: What is my companys track record on keeping their word? What is the  likelihood  of them actually delivering on the promises they are making to me in order to keep me from leaving? Is this just another case of empty promises? Now that my  manager knows that I am prepared to leave, how will they regard my future loyalty as an employee? Will this have an adverse effect on my  tenure if things go bad, or when my project ends Even though I have been promised all these wonderful things, will I actually be  satisfied? Remembering my reasons for going through the  recruitment  process in the first place, do these new promises measure up or do they fall short? In my experience as a recruiter, I would  guess that the vast majority of counter offers Ive seen candidates accept, those same candidates have come back to me in three to six months time, still miserable with their situation and still wanting a change that they were promised and have not seen. Make sure you consider what they have to say, as well as what is being left unsaid. Heres to your job search!

Around 95% of these new soldiers go on to take an apprenticeship, equating to over 8000 completed armed forces apprenticeships each year.The army is one of the largest apprenticeship providers in the UK, and gives its employees the chance to train as a soldier whilst they are studying for a relevant, work-based qualification.In this blog, we will show you how you can enroll on an army apprenticeship programme, how it will benefit you and what types of apprenticeships are on offer.Types of ApprenticeshipBetween them, the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines offer a wide range of apprenticeship schemes for candidates. Once you have applied, and gone through the selection process, you’ll be sent to either Harrogate or Winchester, to undertake your training. If you are undertaking a combat based career, you will be placed at Harrogate. Specialist and technical roles are trained at Winchester. Whatever your choice, you will have the option to take an apprenticeship. There are over 50 different options available.When taking an apprenticeship, your aim is to train in an area which will be similar or closely linked with a future job. Therefore, your army apprenticeship will directly relate with the role that you are hoping to perform in the service. The qualifications that you will receive from an army apprenticeship are also recognised by employers outside of the armed forces. There are two different levels available:Apprenticeship Level 2. This level will provide you with the equivalent of 5 good GCSE grades, and supply you with key employability skills such as literacy and maths. You will receive an NVQ Level 2 qualification by the end of the course, and will be qualified as a skilled army tradesman.Apprenticeship Level 3. This is an advanced apprenticeship which will provide you with the equivalent of two A Level passes. In order to take this training, you must have the equivale nt of 5 GCSE grades at C or above, and you must be applying to a technical trade within the armed forces. This course is a natural step for many soldiers following their level 2 apprenticeship. Following this course, many soldiers move on to take Bachelors and Masters degrees.How long does it take to complete and army apprenticeship? You will generally complete your apprenticeship during your training period. Once you have completed your apprenticeship, you will be ready to move up to the next level, or move on to work within the unit you have trained for.How much do army apprenticeships pay? The Royal MarinesThe Royal Marines are a smaller subsection of the Navy. They are primarily a fighting force, open only to males, and operate on land, sea and in the air. There are many specialist roles available within the marines, including:-Heavy Weapons-Piloting-Intelligence-Weapons TrainingIn order to apply for the Ro yal Marines, you must first obtain an application form from your local careers office. You’ll then be invited to take a recruitment test, whereby your skills in English, Maths and problem solving will be examined. If you are successful in this, you’ll be invited to take a medical and physical examination, and an interview.This will be followed by a three-day assessment centre, where you will be tested physically, mentally and on your personality. You will have to complete various aptitude tests, as well as another interview. Finally, you must attend another two-day assessment course, where you will be tested physically and medically. Your aptitude will also be further examined. If you are successful in all this, you will begin your training.  British ArmyAs a member of the British Army, you would represent the UK in providing protective and humanitarian aid around the globe. You would also work to safeguard the UK, whether on the front line or behind the scenes.There are many sp ecialist roles available within the Army, such as:-Combat. Working on the frontline with guns or armoured offensive vehicles to provide protective services to civilians.-Engineering. Working to solve a range of different army based problems. You would be required to fix everything from faulty equipment or plumbing issues, to complicated and dangerous weapons and intelligence systems. -Logistics. Responsibility for resources and equipment, ensuring all products and resources are in optimum condition for use.-Healthcare. Healthcare workers are responsible for the medical wellbeing of the army’s officers, soldiers and even their animals.In order to sign up, you must first apply online. Once you have completed your online application form, you will be sent a link enquiring about your general health. Assuming this meets the required standard, you will then be invited to attend an interview with a careers advisor. The careers advisor will establish which role is the most suitable for y ou. You’ll then be invited to attend an assessment centre. Here you will undertake mental, physical and aptitude based tests. If you are successful in this endeavor, you will begin your training.  Royal Air ForceAs a member of the Royal Air Force (RAF) you would be responsible for representing the UK in the air. You would work to police the skies, aid, protect and  provide  humanitarian services to overseas victims, and provide emergency services to mountain and coastal areas. You can either work as a trade, or as non-commissioned aircrew. Trades work on the ground, to support aircrew via technical means. Non-commissioned aircrew work alongside pilots as weapon systems operators. As you progress within the field, you may get the opportunity to become an officer, or pilot.There are also many specialist roles available within the RAF, including:-Air operations. Working to maintain and support the safety of pilots already in the air, through services such as air traffic control.-Engi neering. Working with specialist aviation equipment to ensure the safety of pilots and the safe return of planes.-Intelligence.  Working to maintain the security and privacy of air telecommunications, as well as analysing and interpreting intelligence information. In order to work within the RAF, you’ll first need to fill in an application form. Following this, you will be invited to attend a four day selection centre where you will be tested mentally, physically, on your aptitude and intelligence and will undergo various medical checks.
